Anyone here ever seen a stinger bumper work in somebody's favor? Or do you just roll sideways?

I think the main purpose of a stinger is to protect the hood/radiator and a winch (if you have one) in case of a roll-over. Of course there is the possibility that it MIGHT keep you from going over in a forward roll, I guess.

The theory is that a roll is safer than a flop. I've only seen them in action on rock crawling events. I don't think they do much for the trail Jeep.

I think I agree. If you were going down steps, it would only work if the front was at the bottom of the steps, and the stinger could reach the ground, in which case you should accellerate. The other thing I think about is; Is the cliff I don't want to go over beside me or in front of me? How the heck do I know where it will be? Maybe I should put a stinger front, back, and on both sides!
