I purchased the sector shaft on the left for my M38. It was incorrect. I found a correct NOS part so this one is available. You can see the old, worn shaft on the right is slightly longer.
If this works for you happy motoring. :)
Price is $10 shipped in a priority mail flat rate box.
Come by the house and it’s free. (y)

Does anyone know what the aftermarket replacement one is for? Maybe civilian small ross box?

The shaft diameter is the same on both. The length is the only difference I could see. I am looking for evidence of where I bought it to see what it said.

Below is the text from the advertisement. All the text matched the castings on the steering box so I pulled the trigger. The reason I didn't return it is because I didn't discover the problem (great fit but too short) until I had installed the shims, bearings and bushings. I missed the text in red below.
I chose to purchase the NOS part rather than return this item. Maybe I was concentrating too hard on the end goal and not unhappy enuf to send it back. And there's always the possibility the wrong shaft was included in the kit although the part matches the description and photo. I'm not complaining - only trying to get the part to someone if they can use it rather than throwing it away.
The NOS shaft was available and fit perfect. A few extra bucks and wonderful learning experience. I'm happy. :bananatool:

ROSS 15/16" Steering Box Sector Shaft kit Fits 1950-52 M38 Willys jeep
This is a new sector shaft KIT for the Ross steering on the M38 military jeep. This is the one that you just can't find. This is for the odd ball steering box originally found on the 1950-52 M38 flat fender military jeep. The Ross box this fits will have the numbers TA122985 on the actual box and TA125999 on the side cover. The side cover bolt holes are 3" center to center. This sector shaft has the correct 1 1/2" CTC pins for the M38 worm gear and 15/16" diameter shaft. Since this is an odd ball box we do not have a door gasket for it.

Remember you have to hone the bushings once they are installed for a good snug fit.

Overall length 5 7/8", center to center on the pins 1 1/2", shaft length from inside of base to end of threads 5 1/4", Shaft diameter 15/16"
