Starter

The starter on my 2a decided to stop working. A buddy of mine has a 3b and he has a spare starter he gave me to use. I'm "fairly" sure he has a L-head also but I could be wrong.... Well when I got mine off and I compared them beside each other the gear teeth count was different, plus the actuall gear size was smaller on the starter that he gave me. Mine has 10 teeth and his has 9....... Just trying to figure out if there is any way to use his starter or not??? If not I'll just get mine rebuilt but free is always better

 

If his engine is stock it is a 134F not an L and the flywheel and starter gear teeth are different. Unless you can split the two starters and swap the drive section between them I see no way to make a 9 tooth starter drive work on a flywheel designed to use a 10 tooth drive.

Thats what I was thinking, I just didnt know if there was someway to switch the gears between the two...
