    First guess- bad solenoid :(

2nd guess- bad toggle switch

3rd guess- someone put in a jumper between the solenoid output to the starter & the solenoid input terminal. :?

4th guess- it's all a bad dream & you should wake up now :coffee:

had it happen to me before.my solenoid was bad. took it apart and the copper contacts were burnt, i figured it temporary welds its self together and sticks together.the only way i could stop mine was to pull the battery cable from the battery or hit the solenoid with a hammer.

sounds like the solinoid is sticking in place. simple fix: remove solinoid, give it a light coat of grease and reinstall it.

Since you say new starter, there is a possibility you might need a thin shim between starter and block. when you engague starter the bendix may be sticking to the ring gear which keeps the solenoid engaged hence continues to run starter, even though starter button is no longer pressed.

Thanks guys I pulled the starter and bench tested and no sticking so Im guessing its getting stuck on the flywheel, will pick up some an washers to use as shims tomorrow. thanks for the help.

I had my starter overhauled and it came back with a new solinoid. When it threw the switch, the starter spun up like a charm (did not engage the ring gear though). I removed the solinoid and just placed 12V on it. It hung up! I found that the darn thing is very magnetic. Got a replacement from the overhaul place (did not fit the same, but that is another story) and it works great.
