Where can i get a rebuild kit for my starter? Its a 12v for L134. It has an externally mounted solenoid which i've been told is odd for 3-a.

I'm going to pull it off tonight so i'll be able to get serial or model #'s if that helps...

You might also try your local electrical/automotive shops (places that do starters, alternators, etc). On my 'bendix style' starter (no solenoid) they rebuilt it with new brushes and a new bendix assembly for about $50-60. I was surprised, when I showed them what I had, they said, "oh yeah, we can rebuild that, we have the parts in stock, no problem... do you want to keep it 6V or go to 12V?"--I didn't even have to tell them what is was or what it came off of. I guess old autolites must be fairly common/universal.

The cheapest I could find the bendix assembly by itself (for a jeep application) was about the same price.

i just emailed Mac's jeep parts... he has them for 169$ no core. Pretty darn good if you ask me. Think i might go that route if i cant find a local rebuild guy.

6V have been proven to work excellent in a <well tuned> Jeep. You can get the armature turned locally fairly cheap. Then you can assemble one good starter from several. I found that my case packings were corroded, disintegrating and swelling against the spinning interals and jamming (Ask Dennis). So I swapped on a good case and fixed it. I dont know if the outer shell is rebuildable anymore.

Scribe a mark on the back plate and case so they rematch -- otherwise, if it is 180 deg off, you will be pleased to experience the amazing reverse jeep starter anomolie (ask me how I know) :D
