I've read that some guys have tried using a Toyota starter. Will this work with an L Head? Can it work with six volts?

On an L-head you'll also have to replace the flywheel and bell housing with parts from an F-head for the Toyota starter to work.

you should be able to have your starter rebuilt, look to companies around you that fix generators and electric motors.

I Didn't know it, but I had a F-Head Starter (not the toyota starter) on my L-head for a bout A Year and half now no problems.
Thanks PO, I have no idea whether he changed the fly-wheel or not.
