Anyone have a source or a couple laying around. I need a few. For a dash pad I just acquired. If not I will just have to attach it with the 5 sheet metal screws and call it good. 1971 cj5 dash pad.

You have to purchase a hundred of those clips.

Are your sure that dash pad is from a 71? It does not look like mine at all and the clips are not like mine. Maybe try to find some for a 72+ and you might have better luck as I think that maybe that's where the dash pad came from.

I think Wyomike's suggestion is correct. I can see the AMC/Jeep logo in your photo, meaning your dash pad is from an intermediate ('72-up). You will need to source the clips that match the one you have, so search for the '72-up versions.
I believe the part number for the clips you are looking for is 969191 and there are 4 required.
See if you have a part number on your dash pad. It may be 986796 or 986835.

The holes in the dash match the holes on the pad and the holes by the defroster ducts match the tabs on the dash pad. When I get the clips I will post a picture. I do not know if it was from a 71 or 72. If I could see them next to each other I would be able to tell. I know it had a dash pad at sometime because the holes were all in. When I purchased the jeep there was no dash pad.

I suspect that the pad from a 72-73-earlyish74 is the same as from a 70-71. I don't have a book for 70-71, but the part number is 989835, which dates it to around the time of the takeover. It has 5 screws and uses those same clips to hold it to the windshield frame. Pretty sure the windshield did not change the location of the defroster vents and passages until 1976. There is a lateish74-75 version that is molded instead of stitched, and it has 3 screws. Pretty much a one-year-only part - my CJ-6 has one.

I do not know how to tell if it is for a 1971 cj5 or later. Maybe you guys can. What I do know is it should fit. I purchased it from one of our members. And if memory serves me right he has a 1971 renegade II.

Tried to get some pictures of mine, but there is just not enough room between the pad and glass to get a pictures of the clips. But there just flat tabs that come straight out from the pad, about 1" wide with a hole in the center to screw them to the frame and 5 of them, nothing any close to what you have. So I suspect there 72+ but the odds are pretty good I think, that they will fit with no problems as like Tim said the windshields were the same. I did notice one difference in the back of the pad. Mine does not have the AMC Jeep logo nor that slot towards the top. Wonder what that is for? Also must admit that yours look a little better made then mine are. Suspect that AMC liked the idea of them but decided to make them a little better as they were going to be putting them on a lot more of there Jeeps then the few made for the RIIs

Mike did the wiper motor wires just go underneath the dash pad and then through the metal dash?

How many screws does it use? Should be 3. It's from a 1975.
