That's an old TR Special that I built many years ago that had a trailer type surge brake valve built into the tow bar...........the master cylinder in the Surge Brake was directly connected to the Jeeps rear brakes only via a Special Valve that I sourced through Mico Brake. The valve and the associated plumbing allowed the brake system on the Jeep to have two locations to apply brake force to the Jeep without upsetting either of the two Master cylinders.
Of course once the tow bar was on and the brakes bled the bar never left the Jeep and was just moved up out of the way while Hunting........once I did that I pretty much left it on all the time.......

Today there are special Areoquip fittings available that can quick disconnect brake lines without fear of getting any air in the system......................Worked like a charm , the Truck and Jeep would stop from 65 mph as if it was not even back there.

Well, spoke by phone to BesTop again today...I'm understanding that in addition to yesterday's findings from them---they didn't offer a horizontally rolling toward the tailgate side window/curtain. I'm under the impression they didn't offer any "roll-up" side curtain/window for what's referred to as the "safari look". More reason to believe that Tarry's is not a BesTop.

Edit: In a follow-up call to BesTop, it was noted that the one which I received the above info. regarding no "roll-back" side window/curtain was in error. They did offer a "roll-back".

Did you remind them this brochure clearly states roll back side curtains. And this would actually be vertical not horizontal. ;)

I am sorry I do not have any pictures of my old Bestop. I mentioned before my doors being different than Tarrys. Also the first triangular window behind the door was different - the forward edge was not vertical - it followed the angle of the first top bow. Otherwise i would say the top itself looked identical (mine was black though). My side curtains were zippered along the top and deffinately rolled towards the back. I disposed of the top fabric about ten years ago and scrapped the frame about five years ago - regretfully. I did find the pouch that hangs on the inside of the door - it looks like Tarrys but is black and has two snaps to fasten it to the bar. The pouch has a sewn in tag that says BestopDualmatic. I did see a vintage add somewhere recently for a Dualmatic soft top and hat has me wondering if that could be the make of Tarrys top.

I'll go back to BesTop armed with more info: 1. Their vintage ad stating roll-backs 2. possible connection Dualmatic- Longmont, CO (soft-tops)

Edit: Have now talked to BesTop (3x) and they are very serious about returning with any info. they may be able to gather.

Went back down to storage today to look for some V6 Parts...............Thought what the heck I'm going to pull that old soft top down and pull it out of the box once more , unfold it outside in the daylight and go over it with a fine tooth comb.......windows were marked " LUCOLITE" and among other numbers this may have been a date code embossed in the clear plastic 12 -72 but not really sure........I must have rolled it over two or three times when a faded color in the corner of the rear clear plastic window caught my eye...........Low and Behold.............Mystery Solved.

Thanks to all that took part in trying to solve the Mystery ..............especially Dave B who went the extra mile and talked with BesTop a few times........even though Bestop could not figure out the doors. Good Job Guys!

Thanks, Tarry for dragging the top out and finding the Bestop label. You had us a going-- in an attempt to unlock the mystery!

The good folks at BesTop thank you too--I'm sure, as now they can use their phone lines to communicate with BesTop dealers to supply the orders y'all are placing for BesTop products!:)

I would still like to know where the door handles and inside strikers came from?...................................Obviously a factory deal from BesTop .............maybe some one-off stuff they ran as a limited production to test the market place?
Can't understand why they never made more! Much more positive latch & lock than any others I've seen.

Does the passenger door have the same locking latch setup? What about the back flap, just the regular zip up?

Just a Zipper in the back window.............same exact door mechanism on the passenger side.
I would have had to buy that from a dealer.........back then it was either catalog sales Wards or Sears , JC Whitney or a Jeep parts guy or dealer , no internet then.............and It would have had to come from one of the 3 dealers that I mentioned above........

If that was some sort of promotional top & one off rare doors , which it may very well have been as others also mentioned that they never seen side windows roll up to the rear , nor has anyone here ever seen doors like that before including Bestop having no records in there own archives.............. and I looked at the material between the doors and top and they were exactly the same so one could only conclude that it did in fact come from BesTop and again was some sort of Rare Promotional Top & Door package. I just don't know.

And if that is a one off top , I would then guess that perhaps it came from the Cochran & Celli Chevy , Buick & Jeep dealer in Oakland where the Jeep originated from......I would think there volume of selling tops would be much greater because they also were selling new Jeep vehicles.............Maybe BesTop gave it to them to try it out? I do remember the Jeep parts department was upstairs and they had a nice display area for Jeep accessories.

    Another unsolved Jeep Mystery!

Kin to the "mystery top"-- "BesTop full soft top and doors in good condition" . Some may recognize the 1964 CJ6--SS Dutch/Boyink (former owner)

More like hoping to jog the memory. ;) My memory is horrible at times....some things stick forever and other things are gone in a flash.
