SM465

Just found a SM465 in the local paper for $160. Claims it in "very good condition."

Good deal?

Are these all geared the same? Different models?

 

Could be. Is it a 2 WD version, or a 4wd version. for that much, I would go look at it and take off the top cover and look around at all the gears. look for typical tranny stuff....missing teeth on synchros and the blocking rings etc. check mainshaft endplay. Seems to me that they are pretty common for around 100 bucks, but if its in good shape 165 aint bad.

 

Dumb question time. There are 2 different versions. How do I identify?

 

I would think that a 2wd version would have a yoke on it.

 

there are actually 3 different versions, early 4wd, late 4wd and 2wd. They will all work depending on which adaptor you choose.

Forget about the SM465. Just got off the phone with my uncle. He's gotta SM420 sittin' out back behind his garage. Gonna cost me a 12-pack. Score!
