What bell housing is best to use to go behind a Buick 231 V-6 to mount a SM420 to it?

In my opinion, there really isn't a "best" bellhousing to use. I would change my mind if I found one that came from the factory ready to mount a slave cylinder to it though...

Assuming you're using a RWD 231 engine, you can use just about any B-O-P (Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac) bellhousing you can get your hands on. It needs to have a Muncie bolt pattern and the locating hole for the front bearing retainer should measure 4.686". Be aware that you will have to drill out 2 of the bolt holes as 2 of the bolts that hold the SM420 to the bellhousing are set up so the bolts are started from inside the bellhousing and thread into the transmission. You will probably need to do some grinding (mine took required very little) on the bellhousing to get clearance for the top cover.

    Good luck with your project.

only other concern I'd have would be to confim the depth of the bell is compatible with the input shaft length.

    cheers,
