    New cross member in!
Bill, don't make nasty judgments based on age. My 32's are lovely, and the most suspension I want is a holbrook long leaf.

    Yer killin me R)

I'm still trying to figure out how to make the 2 you gave me into the arms of a clock or something.
Although I do have a 235 Chevy valve cover hanging up in my garage, they would look good next to it.

No nasty comments, I just know what I put my poor cj3a through when I was your age, and what parts I broke. A center model 30 from a commando does not hold up well with a buick v6 and large tires.

Howdy! I was wondering if you guys got room for one more in here? I picked up this pretty sweet little 3a last week, so I guess I'm part of the Flatty club now.

Let me see if i can post some pictures.

Been reading alot of threads on this forum, and everyone seems friendly -- I hope you don't mind some newbie questions if I can't find the answers myself.

    Thanks!

Thanks. Supposedly, it was a mild rebuild on the 5.0, but this thing is too much for the original drivetrain I can tell already, so I'm researching my options. The PO also had f/r D44's out of an int'l scout and a Muncie 4speed mated to a D20 with a warnOD and offered them to me for 1k. Those scout axles need rebuilds, but that WarnOD is going to be a must I can tell already. I could use that 4th gear too.

Running into a breather issue.... Need to find the tomato can, the grommet for the rear port, the plumbing for it, and a different intake, Edelbrock C3B is what I'm looking for, with the front oil fill tube...
All because I wanted to run stock valve covers R)

I like your thinking with the stock valve covers. They have some real class on the old mill. You definitely need to find a way to vent the engine right. I made a big mistake years ago swapping out an engine that I thought was bigtime burning oil due to being worn out. I spent the bucks to build a new engine and installed it with the same intake, valve covers, carb and such. Went out and started running the new engine only to find it burnt oil into clouds of smoke when I pulled any serious RPM. Turns out I used the same plugged up valve cover oil filler vent cap. It was not allowing the crankcase to vent which then pushed oil past the rings at higher RPMs. At normal low RPM operation the vent breather lets air vent into the crankcase to be pulled out the PCV valve into the carb. At High RPM there is little to no vacuum to pull into the PCV and the crank builds serious windage and air pressure that needs to breath out the same vent breather. I ended up giving that perfectly good engine to a buddy only to have it run for years all due to a crappy crankcase venting system. Live and learn. I suggest to look for an intake with the filler and vents you need to run those classic valve covers. You could drill a hole in the back of one valve cover hidden away then add a bulkhead fitting and run a hose to a PCV valve to the carb. Then you need an intake filler tube intake with a fresh vent style breather cap like the AMC engines used. Some aftermarket intakes have the boss to drill out so you can add the tube. Some have the boss drilled with a frost plug in them as well. I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't drill a regular intake in the area in front of the thermostat to add a filler/vent breather as well. Good luck with it. Looks like fun.
