On a 283??????????????????????? Might be a bit difficult to see where you were going but then again it might not matter if you are airborne:rofl:

Can't tell from pic, but does that have the side motor mount bosses? The early 283 blocks were front mount only and used the shown bellhousing for the rear mounts. They will work but limit mounting options for ps pumps and the like and some of the front adapter plates cause fuel pump interference. Almost all of the small journal sbc's had forged cranks and will turn some pretty good rpms (7k) with a balance job, right cam and lifters.

Got my radiator and mounted it up quick, still have to attach it to the mounts with bolts, not vice grips.
Set the motor in the bay to test it, Dang me, I'm going to have to cut my firewall :( I was hoping not to do it but there's gonna be no room for the electric fan and water pump/pulleys. Even then, it'll be real tight it seems.
The radiator is a 69 mustang radiator with a built in trans cooler.

Distributor next to the firewall. Still have several inches before the bell housing contacts it the firewall.

close to the grill as I can get it before I contact the headlight buckets.

Slap your acc. on there and drop it back in so you'll know just how tight it is. What fan are you planning on using? Hint: Dont say black magic

Is there enough room between the grill and rad. to mount a pusher fan? That would save you some room under the hood.

It looks like you may gain some room if you notch the headlight buckets. I've seen V8's in Jeeps that didn't cut the firewall, but the headlight buckets were modified to fit the radiator right up against the grill. You can cut out a section of the bucket and then box it back in with aluminum sheet and JB-Weld. Then paint the bucket. I used this method and some galvanizing spray to repair mine that was squashed. Just by looking at it, you would never know it had been repaired.

Just a note Sammy: you will likely have your engine dropped towards the rear to line the rear driveshaft. You can mount the radiator on the same angle, which will pull it back away at the top of the grill-can give you more room for the radiator without having to really chop the head light buckets (on the 3B it also gave me enough space to put the ps cooler in front of the radiator). From the pics it would appear that the engine could come forward some-might just be enough for the dist.

Well, I'm about off to go junk yarding in a few minutes to get some stuff (valve covers and a fan) I had a crown vic cop car fan but holy crap that thing is HUGE! There is enough room to clear the dist. in that picture, but not for the pulley, water pump/fan area. The radiator sits parallel to the headlight buckets, but about 3/8 of an inch off of them. I'm happy with it right now. I may check into a pusher fan, that would be the bee's knees. I'm wondering if I bump my radiator back to fit a pusher fan, if I woudln't have to cut the firewall then... Hmmm

for now, but with the v8 means bigger tires and more stomping on the skinny pedal. With those two combinations it means the stockers are not going to hold up long.

I don't think you have to install bigger tires if you have a V8.
There's been guys who ran V8's for 30 or more years on stock axles.
Actually, the V8 should mean less stomping on the skinny pedal.

Yes they will hold up, but sammy is a fairly young guy, do you really think his not going to put more lift and bigger tires in to match the engine. Why put all that work in and still have some weak links and a jeep that will not preform and better off road then my stock m38.

I still don't understand a lift and tires to "match" an engine.
The idea isn't to perform better off road, it's to make it usable on the road.

Looking at your pictures there, it seems like you would have enough room for the Chevy short water pump and accessories along with a slim electric fan.
I used a 96 Ford Taurus fan on my v8 swap and it it a tight fit but will work. Just offset the fan motor from the water pump pulley. The Taurus fan was only like 2" or 2.5" thick off of the top of my head. Here is a couple of pictures of my v8 engine combo with 65' mustang rad and Taurus fan for a 4.8L Chevy Vortec engine.
