scored a mojave heater

i just purchased a mojave heater for $100. it looks almost new and comes with a plenum and fan switch. hoping to rip out that sorry excuse for a heater and install this little thing. pictures will be coming soon as well as a sale of the stock heater.

 

Hey when i started looking at aftermarket heaters. thats the kind i was looking at, at first but I thought for my theme and look I went with the south winds.

The Mojave was to modern looking LOL.

You got a good deal on that one if it is complete?

now i just need a way to regulate the heat. i don't want it to be just hot and on.

 

That is the unfortunate thing about those heaters............no way to blend or cut off the air or divert it to either the windshield or floor ............always either on or off..........you can regulate the hot water somewhat by having a cable operated shut off valve coming off the motor that you can limit the amount of water and therefore heat flow to the unit...........or you can combine the valve and build a plenum of sorts at the exhaust side with the ability to divert and /or shut off air as you like.

 

I used a simple cable operated coolant control valve in the inlet hose and a cheap choke cable I had laying around on the Daughter's '70. Works great for controlling the temp.

Why can't you control the fan speed? A DC motor will speed up and slow down depending on what voltage you feed it.

 

it's not the fan speed control i'm worried about it's the temp control. i was looking at what nick was talking about this morning. with the headers being outside the frame and mufflers right under the seat area it gets a bit warm in the summer and dont want any extra heat in the cab.
