I'm having a little issue trying to source a rebuild kit for my Saginaw steering box. The big problem is that I can't remember what I pulled it out of at the junkyard 10 years ago, some large 70's car is all I remember. It is a regular saginaw power steering box with the 76 cast into the bottom.

Does anyone have a link to a generic rebuild kit or can one be found with the casting numbers on the box?

:)That should be a series 700 or 800 4-bolt box w/ a 13/16" input shaft although they did make some w/ 3/4" shafts......on a host of GM cars since the early 70's and on CJ5s starting around the late 70's and 1980's............what is it your trying to fix?

Most complete rebuilds take several specialized drivers and tools to complete the job.........you might think about sending it to a re-builder in your area or swap it out at a local NAPA. I use a guy in So-Cal he can also re-valve ( variable ratio )the box to suit your driving needs.

Leaking pitman arm and input shaft seals.

Box is a series 800 4 bolt. As for the tools and drivers, I have everything at work. If I don't have a driver I need, I have a lathe to make one :)

:)Do you have a brace on that Sector shaft housing? That bearing is quite a ways up inside the housing with the seal near the exit , which allows for that shaft to flex a lot when guys have big tires off road..........we like to clean that bore up and install a second bearing and also a brace tied to the opposite side frame rail.........If you want to PM me I'll give you Tom's number in LA and see if he can help you with the parts.

Joe, I just picked up the same box off a 84 CJ7.
I took the seals out yesterday and went to get new ones. The pitman arm seal carquest has no problem. Think it was around $15. It's the input seal giving us fits. Mine's the 13/16" shaft also. I had them look up a part for me here at the dealer and even my cost its like $140 for a rebuild kit for the input. Whatever that includes.
Do you have a number on the input seals? I hit a bullseye when I pulled my seals and put a hole right at the number. If I have a number that's on the seal I may be able to get the right one at carquest.

I took a chance and bought a full rebuild kit at Autozone. I kind of remembered the car I pulled the box off of so I ordered the kit for a 1976 Chevy Malibu, P/N 7858, pretty standard at $32. I was rebuilding the box earlier today and much to my surprise everything was correct! :D I did manage to damage the inner pitman arm shaft seal installing it so I have a new one on order which will be here tomorrow morning. Its an SKF 12371.

The Autozone kit includes all O-rings, Teflon rings, snap rings, washers, input shaft bearing, sector shaft bearing, and full instructions.

The old input seal that came out of my box is an IPC 5686526. The dust seal is an IPC 5688229

Thanks joe. Those numbers look like the same I've got. Ill check again at carquest here in town tomorrow since they are close. If not, autozone sounds like right price:)

Got the seals today. Went with the 76 chevy malibue with 350v8 and they found it no problem.
    Carquest part numbers
35103 -- Pitman arm seals. 2 seals and washers and snapring
35131 -- input seal, dust seal, snapring and an oring.

it was around $20-25 for both seal kits
