I am a little bit late to the roxor game. I have a question. What type of transfer case does it have and the gear ratio?

Wow, that does mean a lot of parts will change out. I like the gear ratio in the 18 more than i do the dana 20

Geez, it still has needle bearings on the intermediate shaft.

Is this a direct replacement for the old spicer 18. Is it more quite than the old 18?

There is no practical difference in the gearing between an 18 and a 20. Nothing other then some numbers for bench racers.

TBD. It appears to be double drilled for "texas" and "circle 6" patterns. One of us needs a unit in our hands before we can tell for sure what real options it holds for us.

It seems quieter, though not NP231 quiet. I've driven the Roxor faster than I've driven any early CJ5 lol.

Is the transfer case quiet'er because it is new?

This is what I want to know. I would imagine that most people will never notice the noise.
No windshield, top or doors allows enough outside noise to drown the TC out.

Confirmed. Definitely quieter. Reasons could be many unrelated to minor internal design changes though.

No, so I’m assuming it’s empty already ;)

Given 4.88:1 axle and 3.1:1 1st gear the difference between 2.03 and 2.46 transfer case ratios is quite noticeable. That would be a final drive of 30.7 versus 37.2:1 ratio. That’s a 20% + difference in ratio.

Man, for $599, this is a killer deal. Does anyone know if it is 6-spline or 10-spline input?

It appears that the input to the tcase is supported on the PTO plate with tapered roller bearings on the input and PTO plate sides, which is a nice design change. The Roxor transmission is an iron-cased BA10 ish unit (the crappy 80s BA10s were aluminum and had morale issues), so my assumption (and the parts pics do somewhat back this up) is a 21-spline output ala 1984. So the Roxor "T18" input shaft does the translation magic between 1984 and 1971. You can check out the parts page on the Roxor site to see what I'm talking about.

I've been wanting to get a whole unit here to putz with.

Gotcha, I was wondering about that input shaft. So now we figure out how to mate it with other transmissions.

Right. Will it turn out that we can use most any adapter, to emulate an AX15, on it? That'd sure be nice as most everything has been bolted to a circle6 at some point. Still TBD.

I do like the design of the input area being fully supported. Does that make it a little quierter? Is it just new and holding fluid so it's quieter than Drippy McDrips? TBD

The design engineers ARE very much aware of the PTO port options for the Willys/Kaiser era stuff. As working accessories start to emerge, I think we'll unearth some neat stuff for our Earlies too.
