I was thinking what is going to stop someone for buying an early jeep and putting the vin tag on a roxor and driving it on the street? I know it’s illegal, but how would anyone know?

"locks are there to keep the honest people out"~

dishonest people are going to do what they want. most people that can afford a 15K+ UTV are honest people, is a reasonable assumption on my behalf.

in short, nothing will stop them. nobody would know.

I think a person would always be looking over their shoulder.

Just my opinion...If someone wants to drive it on the road, make it legal...If someone wants it for off road then buy a tow bar. The tow bar is less expensive than getting caught and losing the vehicle.:schooled:

The greater risk would be if a Jeep titled Roxor was in an accident that resulted personal injury. The attorneys would likely end up owning your home & life savings. One might end up doing time behind bars depending on how bad the accident was.

In Michigan ( at least in the northern counties and all of the UP) we can drive UTV/SXS on many streets that makes falsifying VIN moot. We can pretty much drive our UTV/SXS on any road that isn’t a US of MI designated thoroughfare. There are also local regulations adding areas we can’t drive. But I can take my SXS all over the place using county roads. It really aided my decision to purchase one. I have a cottage in McMillan MI and can go everywhere I would like to go. You add all of the trails (Michigan opens snowmobile trails to UTV’s) and I can easily get to my favorite destinations, including my preferred stops, ice cream stands!

What I see is using roxor parts to "rebuild" a jeep. Most of us have enough fab skills to make it work. Even if it was to put a CJ tub, fenders, etc on the roxor frame and running gear. I see that happening quite frequently.

    It has me thinking.

This is what I thought, but i think you would have to use a 7 body or stretch a 5 as the overdrive trans is going to be longer.

Very common for vin tags to be switched old Jeeps. Only having four screws on the tag makes it pretty easy. Might not happen right away but within a few years there will certainly be tag swaps on these. Adding a grill and windshield will make it very difficult to know. The wheelbase can easily be shortened up and made to fit an old tub giving a new life to an old Jeep.

Trust me, if it is an accident in georgia, if the state trooper misses it, the insurance company won't.

Using it legally is always the best approach. Everything else is a risk not worth taking IMO.

That being said, if you tag/insure it as the tag you swapped from a CJ, the insurance company will likely never see it, and I really don’t see how you’d ever have an issue unless you drive like an idiot often.

Don't count on getting away with that- not all accidents are caused by you driving as an idiot. If you're involved in an accident with a major claim be aware insurance inspectors are not idiots and insurance companies are not forgiving- if they can find a way to weasel out of paying a settlement they will.

Agreed, that's why I said this: Everything else is a risk not worth taking IMO.

In reality though, it will be 99/100 idiots that get in trouble vs normal drivers. In which case it's Darwin working in not so mysterious ways. lol
