i'm going to agree with boyink too, i just got around to taking off my front bumper (c-channel none the less) and fixing the cracks it caused. the metal jst doesn't seem to be thick enough to overcome the stresses of boxing in a little bit here or a little bit there. i'm still on the fence about boxing everything in too. it just seems about impossible to take all flex out of the frame.

also, with everyone tying the seats into the cage... do you make some sort of structure under the dash? i can see wanting to go with the cage if there is a realy bad roll, but in that situation wouldn't you be kissing your legs goodbye when they're ripped from underneith the dash? i guess it's better than the alternative, but at a cost.

I guess there are several schools of thought on this, but the most important would be passenger safety. That's why we build cages for these jeeps anyway.

Incorporating the seats into the cage design is probably the safest way to go. If you can't do that (such as is my case) then tying the frame and cage together would be the next best thing.

I am assuming (I know, I know) that most of us use our Jeeps as a toy and occasional driver. The odds of a high-speed rollover are slim at best. The bigger danger would be an off-road rollover.... slower, but could be a steep drop. I want the whole jeep to stay together if possible. Tying the cage to the frame makes sense to me.

I will admit, I come from a racing background and frame flex is not an issue.... so this may be clouding my judgement, but it is peace of mind for me and that is enough.

    Just my .02 YMMV

My intended use is pretty non-hard core wheeling.

Having said that, I also have rollover experience...

I did 1 and 1/4 turns, low-speed in Dutch with the basic 6 point 'cage, not tied to the frame. The body mounts all held up well - I could never find evidence of any puckering or cracking by the rollcage mounts. The roll was straight sideways though, maybe a more diagonal roll would have stressed things more?

GTE - I hadn't thought about the leg issue. I guess I'll rely on my natural response of going into a fetal position while rolling...;)
