I want to get some new tires and rims for the 66 cj5a , I would like to run 30/31 x10.50's what would be the best backspaceing to use ? would a standard 15x8 rim be ok? . I am concerened about tire rub on the springs when turning and also rubbing in the rear wheelwells.

The rubbing on the flat inside surface of the rear wheelwell is normal, and nothing to be concerned about. You can adjust the axle stops to prevent the front tires from hitting the springs.

Usual backspacing for these wheels is 3.5" or 3.75". The only "standard" 15"x8" wheel is the Kelsey-Hayes wheels used on the Renegade I and II. These are scarce and fairly expensive when found. Aftermarket wheels will be a lot cheaper.
