Anyone know what vehicles came with a reverse sagi box on it? I am looking for a box where the pitman arm points forward instead of backward (at the steering input shaft). Thanks

I have not really figured out why he is doing a setup like this, the steering boxes are harder to find and this also makes the engine compartment way more crowded than mounting it on the frame horn, granted it keeps everything tucked inside but it also makes it harder to work on.

I'm interested because if I do it this way, I can mount my winch down low with the cable feeding out through the center of my bumper with my fairlead bolted to the center of the bumper. This keeps it all low and protected, plus doesnt block the airflow to the radiator nearly as much either. Plus its harder to see the gear hanging down in front of the frame.

    I like the idea!

Shouldn't be a problem to do that with a regular saginaw conversion.

Can still be done with the standard box.

Works fine sinking the winch and having the box beside it. This picture shows a manual box there, as of this week there's a wagoneer power box.

Chuck, I don't know why I never realized that your sight was the one that I actually used to go to all the time several years back just to see what you had done to your Jeep next. Until I bought my dana 30 I actually used your sight to gather parts to convert my old dana 27 to disks, when I got my dana 30 I sold the disk brake parts off.
You actually have a very good and informative sight that gives alot of guys that find it, hope that there jeep may someday be as good as yours turned out considering how it started out when you drug it home.

    Thanks for the kind words.
Not much of that original jeep left any more. Havn't really been keeping the website up to date. I cracked the block on the 231 this winter and replaced with a 225 and a TH400. Just swapped in power steering after a few years of manual steering 35's. With all this wussy stuff going in I figure the next mod will be heated leather seats

That first pic has a nice fat hole cut into the bottom of the grill for clearance. I don't want to do that, nor do I want to cut a hole in the crossmember for steering shaft to pass through. I have heard bubbas tell that i might not have to do that, but I'll just have to see. My winch is a ramsey, and looks several inches longer than those spur gear drive Warns in the pics. I may, in the end go with the standard sagi conversion, but I like the idea of it inside, and at least want to look at it first. I was hoping Herm would have his version finished by now so I could look at it, but no biggie.

That is not really necessary for a normal installation. Mine is like that because I spend most of my time in the rocks and the normal saginaw location is a rock magnet. So my box sits entirely above the frame rails.

No, I use a stock YJ pitman arm. They have about a 2.5" drop. When I ran my manual box I used a stock J truck pitman with the same sort of drop.

hmmm... so someone could use the orig. two piece tierods and the draglink already on an older jeep. find a yj pitman at the yard and still keep the ps saginaw high up to avoid the rocks? with some serious bracing on the saginaw mount and an additional member across to the pass side for flex bracing? with a late model yj, tj, wagoneer, cherokee, camero, or transam saginaw?

sorry m38. i didn't mean to highjack your thread. i'll pm from now on.

IIRR, all you have to do to reverse the pitman arm is pull it off and turn it around. It'll even fit sideways if you wanta.

That's what I thought too. I know my box has four "flat" areas 90 degrees apart where the pitman will index.
