Looking to get my flywheel resurface. Its a v6225 flywheel. I noticed there is a lip around the outer edge of the face of the flywheel. or maybe the flywheel face is recessed. Some pictures show the lip others do not. when the flywheel is resurfaced with they make acception for that lip or will they remove everything. is the lip needed, what urpose does it solve.

Does the flywheel only go on one way or should it have som markings or what not. PO disassembled the engine.

I'm thinking according to the flywheels done in the past, there should be a flat surface with no ridge

The original Jeep flywheel came with a lip. Most shops like to grind it off when doing a resurface job so they can use a large wheel. If you find a shop that can do it without taking off the lip it is usually more expensive.

This is a good, timely question and answer since I have my transmission/TC removed for a clutch change.

How wide and deep is the flange?

The outer flange looks like it also serves as a reinforcement for mounting the clutch, perhaps?

Now we know who you are! :ninja:

Had the flywheel resurfaced by my trusted machinest. Left the lip on and charged 30 bucks. while I waited. Outstanding service.

I believe the purpose of the lip is to locate/center to pressure plate assembly. These flywheels can be ground without removing the lip. I had one done a few years ago.

There is no purpose to the lip other then adding more weight. These odd fire motors ran a heavy flywheel to try to dampen the odd firing rumble.

so is there a special way to install a flywheel, or mount a fly wheel where there was a flex plate. (other than the length of hardware). are they indexted or cn only go on one way. This would seem critical in an odd fire v6 with a 50 lbs flywheel.

Although the bolt circle appears to the naked eye to be round, when you place it on the end of the crank you will find that it will only align one way.
