    Wasn't it '57 when they switched to the newest speedometer? Wasn't 6 volt still an option? What if that is in fact a speedometer that was meant for a 6 volt Jeep?

    Mid '57 I think. 6 volt was still stock, 12 volts was optional.

    The parts manual indicates that there was a clean cut to S-W 6 volt gauges at serial # 49247 and 6/12 volt at 61684

    I re did my gauge cluster a while ago. I found a nos fuel gauge online and got another cluster to repair the back which was damaged. I found while rebuilding mine that not all fuel gauges are the same. Post spacing is different for different part numbers. Also there is "recall" notice for willys to tape the metal jumper bar so you don't fry your guages.

    Do you recall what fuel gauge you purchased? I was thinking I could clean up the old house designed for the 3 post fuel gauge and move everything plus the new fuel gauge to that. It would take a lot of doctoring of the rotted cardboard but could be done.
