This is my newest project. I still have the BBO 71 R1. But I just don't seem to see the Baja yellow ones as often. So this one will get the attention first and the R1 will have to wait a little longer.

I don't have one in my phone or computer but will snap a few pictures of both the R1 and R2 ammeter wiring when I'm back out to the shop this weekend if anyone hasn't already responded.

I'm not sure I have a correct example to share. After replacing the harness in my orange R1 and missing the added amp and oil gauge circuits I figured I would copy the yellow one. Well the wiring is wrapped into the factory harness and enters the firewall as part of the main harness. The yellow one has a junction block in place of the ballast and there are some other questionable things in my set up that I don't know if they are correct. I have not had the yellow one running (body is off the frame) to know what with the electrical does and doesn't work.

Also, I took some absolutely horrible pictures that probably won't help with any questions but they are listed below.

Hi from San Antonio, Are you sure of the date. I know of a June 1971 #8305017375465. I purchased a 71 Riverside Orange #8305017375091 with a build date of May from Roundrock!

I think fctex is correct on your build date being off. Mine, sn. 8305 017 375285 has a build date of May also, so yours would be between mine and the June one fctex listed.

I would like to add my recent purchase of a 1971 CJ5 Renegade II Baja yellow
S.N. 8305 017 3737XX .manuf. date march 1971. 4.88's w/ trac loc. I am basically second owner of this original unmolested jeep from southwest.
I have owned several early cj jeeps and consider this Renegade a miracle to come along when it did.
This is the real deal with xero rust and no mods except tow bar brackets, ramsey 8000#electric winch, best top(dated 1997) and holes from
Whitco first top. has Warn hubs,Warn overdrive and under coat .All appears to be dealer installed. Will try to add pics later as its been a while since I messed with photo bucket.I feel this vehicle was stored inside as it has original paint, sunvisors, dash pad, rear seat all in great condition.the one thing that was missing is front seats. I am looking for OEM seats.

The august part is just an assumption from trying to read tag and based off another Ren II that is 30ish before my s/n and his was June/71 build date. Everything else I am sure off. The PO spray painted camo all over original paint and all decals. The Ren II has t been registered since the early 80s, it sat on a deer lease until I got it 4 years ago. The build tag was extremely brittle and while trying to remove the spray paint it removed some of the clear plastic that is covering the decal. Issue is that the info was typed onto this decal with some sort of typewriters sorry for the confusion but the letters I could make out do appear to say august. It's possible that it is June or July. My build date of the dauntless is April 71so I know it does not predate that. Also this jeep came from the Pfluegerville/Roundrock area.

This is good to know as like I said the tag is in poor quality and the month is basically gone. I could see 4 letters and what I thought was a 5th. This is why I assumed august. Thank you for the info. I hope I can narrow this down to June or July. I would like to have this info as accurate as possible.

The vin tags are available through an after market dealer. Exact replicas.

Are you referring to the dash sticker? If so I have found the company that makes them, I just don't want to get one made until I am certain that I have the correct month of manufacturing for it. I'd hate to put the wrong one on there. I am getting the jeep running so I can sell it. I have a 2 year old and just don't have the time like I used to. The wife is on me about selling some of my projects. My race car wouldn't get my money back if I sold it and the 86 cj7 tub wouldn't really help to sell either lol.

From the above you are likely late May or early June for a build month. 374123 = April, 374908 = April, 375285 = May, 375399 = Your Jeep, 375465 = June

Yes I agree. I finally found another Ren II today while researching with xxx...375391 and his is June. So I think it may be safe to say June it is. Thank you for everyone's help! I will edit my original post.

Just as a reference to future readers of this thread, Renegade I's and II's didn't have unique sequential serial numbers, they fell right in with normal cj5 production serial numbers.

This has been has made it so difficult because there is so much false information out there in the internet. I ran into this same scenario when trying to get all my paperwork on my 93 Trans Am Firehawk. Only 2 were made with my options and it took years to track down all the info. On this topic though I do appreciate your help Zoomer and all the others that helped me. I should be getting the Dauntless cranked up today for the first time in who knows how long. I'm almost done chancing down all the electrical grimlins from years of deer lease fixes lol. I need to go get the diode for the 3 wire alternator conversion that was done and chasing down all the spliced wires behind the dash. The lights/body harness will have to wait another day.

So another Renegade II question. What does the spare tire mount look like? Is it the same as the standard side mount, just on the back panel? My Ren II had a lot of "upgrades" to it in its life on a rural Kansas farm and is missing the stock type whitco roll bar, spare tire mount, and original D slot wheels.

If it helps others with build dates it 8305017 373757 MAR '71 Baja Yellow.
