In looking at early pictures, some of them pretty crappy, I see what APPEAR to be, some early Renegades that have no "Renegade" in the stripe and possible some that say only "Renegade?" Anyone else seen this. Some of the early R1s I have seen all seem to have "Renegade I" such as Carter's, which was undergoing a resto in 2015 but hasn't been seen lately. That's the earliest one I know of, but if you =guys can chime in with earlier ones...

Also, in a March 20, 1970, notice to Southern Region Dealers, it was stated two colors were available, Winner Green (later called Mint Green) and Sonic Blue (later Sierra Blue). It's obvious and evident that other colors were available, even early on. Carter's is an example and I assume that's Baja Yellow (looking pretty faded). We have also seen Riverside Orange and Plum. Some advertising images, probably shot in the summer of 1969, appearing in December '69 and January '70 magazine ads show Riverside Orange as well.

Anyone have any thought on this apparent discrepancy? Factory documentation is often contradictory but it's always worth following up to see if any details can be learned.

Kaiser Jeep offered a simple stripe, like the Renegade I with no lettering. There is some marketing material showing these, but they are not Renegades. E/ means except.

I don't think the yellow used on the Renegade I/II is the same as the intermediate Renegade yellow. We have seen orange, green, purple, yellow and blue early Renegades if my memory serves me correctly.

Jim here is a PPG paint code that shows some data on the R I colors if that will help.

The yellow on my R1's is called Prairie gold. It hasn't shown up on any color chart as a 999 color but I know is an R1 color as I have 2 of them. It has always intrigued me that the Renegade stripe started as Renegade 1. Why didn't it just start as Renegade. We may never know as it was the transition period to AMC and we all know records are lacking. Interestingly, when I ordered the color for repainting the shop I ordered through said they could only find it as an AMC color starting with 999. I don't remember the rest of the code at this point and kick myself for that.
