Oh lord! What happened to that one? :) Is it a Ren1? What is your build date? VIN number?

Not sure of build date, the dash tag disintegrated when I went to clean it, the VIN is 8305017365287. I know its a later model 70 since the gas tank is in the rear and it has the later style side marker lights. The Jeep was originally lime green from the factory, and has had one repaint (same lime green). It has the wiring harness for dash lights and amp/oil gauges but the gauges are wrong. frame gussets are present, along with a roll bar and tire carrier brackets. I don't have the correct wheels, and I'm missing the swing out part of the carrier.

so for now I assume its a Renegade? but I'm still looking to confirm. I will post pics tomorrow in a new thread, I'm just starting the tear down of this thing

Ok, so I looked at the vin decoder & your build is after mine. My build September 1969 last 6 (sequential serial number) of my vin 361467. I can't imagine the factory doing a mix & match on the upholstery like that. Please figure that some previous owners were just using bits that they could find to keep it looking sharp.

Oh yeah, I'm fairly positive that the factory did not create the mixed covers. After calling the previous owner, he stated that the Jeep had the R1 stripes and thin pinstriped covers when he bought it from the original owner in 1980. Hope this helps!

So what are your plans for this possible R1??? Restoration.

Another idea for you: if the po has pictures they are willing to share with you since you have contact information for them.

Good idea Bert, I'll give him a call this weekend and see what I can come up with.

And yes! Once I've confirmed its a R1 I'm going to do a restoration and get it as close to factory as possible. Currently, I'm taking it apart piece by piece and making a list of what needs to be replaced and what can be re-used. Once I get a chance to take some pictures, I'll start a thread to make sure its a Renegade.

With that being said, I am still in to buy the thin pinstripe covers.

I could not find any good pictures of my RII seats when they were new, but they looked just like the 3 RIIs in the famous RII ad picture. And if I remember correct all of the RIs that I ever saw were of the same material.

Well, IMOFWIW, that picture of the yellow RII is the wider spaced stripes. This would lead me to believe that the later RI's came with the wider space stripes. I gotta get pics of the wider stripe kit & my original narrow space stripe posted up here.

Did you ever finalize the price for front and rear seats with the special order tighly spaced material?

The price will be the same as advertised. The only difference is he won't order the material until he has a commitment from 4 or more of us that want the narrow space pinstripe. I have already made my commitment so we need at least three more to make the special order commitment.

Bert - I will commit to buy a full set (assuming you can get the finer, earlier pinstripe correct for a 1970 Ren I). I understand that the approximate cost is about $850 for the set. Thx.

Build date is March 1970 - this looks like the wider stripe spacing.

Wow, I am really surprised to see that wide stripe on a March build. Are you sure that is original and not replacement? I know without a doubt mine is an original upholstery R1 with narrow spacing.

Thank you Brian for the commitment.

That is a good question. I have been "sure" before and been wrong. Like when I thought the T-14 in my 1966 was original... :) I will see if I can get a picture of the underside of the seat and post it. Maybe you or some other members can tell if the hog rings and their position are original.

Wow, that upholstery looks like it's in really nice shape. Why do you want to replace it.

if anyone is interested, I have a new wide space kit I will sell for $850, buyer to pay shipping. I am committed to buy the near row space kit. PM me.

Well, I am starting to think that this wider stripe is original to my 1970. If it is, then I really just need to replace the upholstery of the two front seats with the wider stripe material. Sounds like that material is still available from SMS Auto Fabrics...
