Rebuilding A 74 304, Waterpump Trouble

    New waterpump on 304 is about 1/4 to 3/8s longer than old, added pully and it is too shallow to line up with the rest, belts wont run like that...Parts store only list one for 304.. this was obviousely like this originally. any ideas?

    The FSJ guys like the GMB aluminum pump, IIRC. Lots of discussion on the FSJ sites. site:fsjnetwork.com water pump - Bing

    If it does not fit, take it back. Try a different supplier. All 74/75 Jeep V8s are the same, Jeep PN 8125131. PN changes for '76, but the book does not say why it's different.

    Ive run into this, had one that didn't line up , ordered one for a 73 304 and it lined up, it was a gmb brand pump.fwiw the wrong pump was on it when i got the 304 and had been run like that only off by a half inch or so made for short belt life.

    Good friends with my local carquest, after an hour long search, they are sending my old one out for rebuild.
