There are a couple of places around here but I can't imagine you'd want to pay shipping both ways for a heavy item like that.

He can probably do it himself...I've always done my own. The hard part is usually finding the parts. I've rebuilt starters, alternators, generators, and one lone power steering pump. None are extremly difficult, with the exception of the PS pump. It was a long time ago, and I can't even remember why it was so difficult...I do however remember making a mental note that I wasn't ever going to do it again. You can get a rebuilt one pretty cheap. It's been a while since I've done a generator..but the last time I did an alternator the rebuild kit was around $20, and included the regulator. I'd think a generator would be even less since they're externally regulated.

Generator and alternator rebuilding tends to be somewhat local. In Maine, 'somewhat local' probably covers a pretty large area. Don't forget New Hampshire....

I'd look for a good Business to Business directory to try to find a rebuilder that does them for FLAPS.

They will usually do one-off rebuilds for people on a cash basis.
