Before buying a rebuild kit, I would talk with the machine shop who will be doing the machine work on the engine. They can usually sell you all the parts for your rebuild a LOT cheaper than you can buy them yourself. They deal with the supply houses daily, and generally get the best deals around. Also, if you end up with say, the wrong rod bearings you can usually get them exchanged the same day, as opposed to dealing with shipping them back and waiting for replacements liek you will with an online vendor. The biggest area where you can save $$$ on a rebuild is if you can reassemble the engine yourself, rather than paying the shop to do it for you.
