Rear View Mirror Exterior Round Vs Rectangle

    what yr did the cj5 go from the round to the rectangle rear view mirror, and does anyone know when they reverted to the square, also the arms were there changes as well between the rectangle and square mirrors

    It was the early 70’s, maybe already 1970. The bracket would be different too for the rectangular mirrors.

    Not sure when the change from round to rectangle was - I'd guess it was late 60s. My '73 CJ-5 had the black rectangular mirrors, as I remember did '72s. By '75 they had changed to the later square mirror. Both of my '75s (then and now) have those.

    My 69 had the original mirror when i got it and it was round.

    looks like a very early 1970 or a retitled 1969 as it has the gas tank under the seat thanks for all the insight, I am just trying to keep it stock

    An image search on google of reasonably stockish appearing vehicles seems to show the change occurred sometime in '66 or '67. Some '66 photos have round mirrors, some have square. '67 pics all seem to be square.

    This Polaroid photo was taken in the late 60's by the original owner of my 1967 CJ-5 (which I bought from his son-in-law in 2009). It was however built very early during that model year, in August of 1966:

    My 1969 has the rectangular mirror. I can’t swear it’s original, but everything else is.
