I am having a really hard time finding the just the hardware to mount my rear seat.
When I bought my 73 CJ5 it came with the original rear seat, but no mounting hardware (the body was replaced with a fiberglass tub).

Does anybody know if someone carries them?
Or is it junk diving time?

I posted in the classified area as well.

    Thanks

Unless someone here has a rustbucket to take them from, it's junkyard time. Might be simpler/cheaper/quicker to have a shop make them for you, or make them yourself. The floor brackets are very simple, and the latch is part of the seat bracket.

Thanks Tim, didn't want to go on a wild goose chase for nothing.
Yeah, they seem like they would be easy to fabricate, basically just some bent strap. Thanks!

I took 2"x4" welded as a box and a little angle to make a mount for the seat. Added little tabs for pins to allow it to flip forward then it got liner sprayed when the interior was done. Makes a shallow, dry, hidden tool/stuff storage and raised the seat up 5" total off floor.

    Those pictures are fantastic!
So many great references for me to work from, not just the seat mount.
    Great job, good looking jeep!
    Thanks

Do you need pictures of the original mounts? If so let me know. I will run out side and find them and put them where they belong in the bed and snap a few photos. They are not installed right now because I'm going thru a rebuild.

I bought a set for my '73 on Ebay. Found a bunch of them. Just search for jeep rear set mounts or brackets. I paid less than ten bucks for mine.

    msarge,

    Thanks!
    That would be much appreciated.
Don't hurry though. I'm out of town until this weekend.
So nothing is going to happen for a few days.
But original pics would help alot.

    Dave,
Thanks, I'll keep looking, I haven't found any there yet.
Well, wait, I've seen a few that will work for YJs and CJs, but I don't know if that will work. Were yours specific to CJs?
    Thanks

And your rear seat is an original from 73?

    Thanks for all the info.

Gosh no Big E. There's not much left on my CJ that's original. I don't have any idea what came in it from the factory. When I got it (out of the middle of a pasture..sadly rotting away) there was no back seat nor any brackets in it, in fact there wasn't much floor left under where the back seat was supposed to be. I bought the seat in one place...not sure what it came out of (but it fits), and then got the brackets on Ebay. They all work but I have no idea what original looks like.

    Big E,

The pictures of the ones on Ebay are the exact same ones I have! I had to flatten one end of mine though because PO installe 4" angle iron in the bed of my jeep!!!

    I have a picture somewhere...

This is what the original Intermediate (72-75) brackets are like, and maybe for several years earlier too. The folding brackets started later. You can remove the seat from the Jeep and sit on it, like a couch.

Shown is a detail of the floor brackets. The seat brackets slide under the middle of the floor brackets. There is a pin on the rear of the seat bracket that goes through the center hole in the floor bracket, and is heald there by a coil spring.

    Tim,

I have the floor mount bars, but no seat bracket. I bought a rough ridge seat and want to fab up the flat bar seat brackets. Do you know the specific measurements. Length, Height (front and rear), length of feet that slides under floor brackets?

    Thanks,
    John

Nope, sorry, no measurements. I've owned (past-tense) Jeeps with this seat, and seen a lot of them. But I don't have one or have measurements now.

I had a rear seat in my 75, fabbed brackets. BUT I have since removed it and sold it.. Seems to me I used some 1" aluminum strap to bend up a set of mounts.

Thanks anyway Tim and zila yeah I am thinking of getting some 1" wide 1/4" thick carbon steel and start heating and bending to get something close to stock. I had a 72' when I was 16yo (that was 27 years ago) as my first ride. It had a factory rear seat and familiar with how it should look, but not exact to replicate. Found a 73' with only 32,000 original miles and starting to fix her up to look like my first ride. The 72' had a solid rear end and the 73' is tailgated. I love the tailgate so far, but the aftermarket seats are less than appealing. They don't fit without fabrication and if I have to fabricate, why not put her back original. As far as I can tell the 73' did not have a factory rear seat as the the bolt holes are plugged/capped, but the threads are there under the caps. New to the site and loving it!
