Has anyone removed the rear main seal on the 4 cylinder while still in the jeep? Is there a trick to removing the top half of the seal , without removing the whole engine?

F head or L head,?? I just replaced mine in the F head. Didn't need a sneaky pete. It has
the two piece seal with neoprene plugs. Did it with the engine in the jeep..
If you have a rope seal, the sneaky pete is your friend..

It is a F- head and the top part of the seal has not budged at all.

There might be a thin metal portion of the seal that you can tap lightly with a small punch. That is what I did. Once it moves slightly,
it rolled right out. It was on the rear-most part of the seal {toward the flywheel}.
