the rear diff that i am putting in to the jeep is a dana 44 from a scout. it is 5" wider a side then the narrow track axle that i now have.

for the disk conversion, i grabed the rotor, calaper and calaper bracket from the front of a scout dana 44. it turns out that the rotor will work beter in the front for the six to five bolt conversion. so the rotor that i was going to use up front i will now use in the back. its from a '88 ram-charger.

the rotor goes on the back of the axle flange and is held on with the wheel studs ( also from the front.... you did keep them when you removed the rotor, right? ) to do this a little material needs to be removed from the flange to fit the hole in the rotor.

i decided to remove the matieral from the axle so if i ever needed another rotor, i can just go buy one and put it on with out modifying it. ;)

this is how it should look finished

for the caliper you need to cut a notch from the bracket to slide over the axle tube, as well it needs to be opened up to fit over the bearing bulge in the tube as you slide it up in place.

after the axle is instaled, you then position the caliper to where it fits to the rotor, measure what you need for a spacer and fab that up. what i will do here is drill and tap the four holes for the bearing retainer on the one side and then drill and tap holes to match the hole patern on the caliper bracket for the other side.

this last part i havent got to yet, so i will update as i progress :D

    good write up.

when I put the disk on the back of my 74 I used the hub and spindles off of d 30 and had axles made so I have hub and full floater on the back
I used scout roter chevy backing plates I had to turn the back of the hub down and the spindle a little bit. I should have taken picture.
    the scout roter were spended.

    Nice Writeup!
There is a writeup on the Binderbulletin that explains this in detail also. By the way, The Scout 2 rotors are the exact same ones as used on '77-'78 CJ's with thick rotors. Nickmil.

Has another tried to put sspindles on the rear of a waggie 44?? It has the 4 bolt reear pattern to hold on the bearing retainer, just wondering if it would be strong enoguh to hold the spindle on (if i can get it to fit) with 4 bolts instead of the 6?
