Reading That Vacuum Gauge

Found this diagram on the Vintage Ford Forum. Using a Vacuum gauge to fine tune the timing and carb's on my Dauntless got her running very well. This chart would have helped.

 

Useful chart, maybe good shop wall "art". Always found it interesting how much you can determine from a vacuum gauge.

 

At the Southeast Willys Reunion, Rick G, (Scout Pilot) did a class on tuning up the Willys engine.
He usde the dwell meter and the vaccuum guage to set the idle and tune the engine.

If you find one that you like, you could print it and keep for reference as suggested by Doug. Your local FedEx(Kinkos)/Staples/CopyCop can print it larger and laminate if you want a nifty poster for your garage.

 

I'm always impressed with what a great tool a vacuum gauge is for so little money - and how few people use one.

 

I have the old Penske set from Sears. Vaccuum guage fuel pressure guage, dwell meter, compression guage, and timing light.
Need to study up on vaccuum guage readings and use it more.

Works good unless you have a cam with a bunch of lift and duration like my V6. But it runs and sounds good.
