I just purchased a 72 CJ5 with 60k miles, and am wondering about the seats. Specifically I want to know if the RCI seats with the fixed seat mounts will bolt directly onto the CJ5 seat mounts? I had RCI seats on my Wrangler, but to make them work I had to use steel plates and mount the seats on the plates, which then mounted to the Wrangler sliders. Any info and or pics would be appreciated. Thanks

You might check to see if you have enough leg room with those seats. Some seats have alot of meat and padding at the rear mount areas that butt up to the rear wheel well, thus pushing the effective seating area forward resulting in very little knee/leg room. I have found the best aftermarket seat for leg room is the Kustom Fit, non adjustable type. I think they are located in L.A. area.

I had that problem with my mastercrafts Fred.. had to whack some big holes in the fenders to get them to fit then glass the fenders back in around the seats..

Sorry about hijacking this thread. I have a similar topic. I have been driving the jeep lots lately and the bar at the bottom of the backrest is causing lots of discomfort. I was wondering if you guys could provide some input on what you use for seats and what you have learned about trying to retrofit seats into a cj-5 with a tool box under the passenger seat?

    FWIW -

Someone here posted a pic of some Saturn buckets swapped in. He removed the headrests, and the result was a smallish bucket seat that didn't look out of home in the Jeep.

TJ seats might be another option.

Personally I've gone back to the originals as with the fold/tumble feature of the passenger seat they work the best when you have a family to get in and out of the back seat.
