Ive got a strange one here with my F134 stalling randomly when fully warmed up. After driving about 5+ miles the engine will stall as if running out of fuel. It will always restart after a little cranking, sometime stalling again a few minutes later, sometimes runs fine. It has never stalled while warming up or idling in the driveway.

It's pretty stock Fhead, with pertronix electronic ignition and solex carb, both about a year old. It always starts easily and runs well (except for the stalling) purrs like a kitten idling. Only 12k miles on the CJ. It doesn't get driven much, only short distances on weekends.

I thought it was water in the gas, but I've always added stabil since it doesn't get driven much. Also, wouldn't water show in the transparent in line fuel filter?

One very odd thing I have noticed, condensation on outside of the carb. With the engine fully warmed up (the tstat opened, temp gauge in the middle) the mid section of the solex is cold to the touch, just below the bowl. The base is warm from the manifold but not the middle. So on a warm day it gets condensation. Is there some odd way the condensation is getting sucked in?

    Any Ideas?

I never have used a solex, and wouldn't feel the need to, but I have heard they can have problems with humidity icing up in the carb throat. That could explain why it restarts after a while.

And it's definitely been humid in the north-east lately, like 98% this week.

It's been discussed here in the past. Try search.

Yep, it has the vented cap and the original mechanical fuel pump.

Does it have the glass dome? How old is the fuel pump? Is it possible the diaphragm is old and not flexible enough to pump enough fuel?

No glass dome on the pump, its the "newer " model. I pulled the fuel line of the carb and cranked the engine. It squirted all over, so I guessed it was pumping properly.

I did the search on Solex icing issues. How bizarre! The pictured carb is icing in the exact space mind is cold! I would think everyone would have this problem. Other than routing some sort of heating to the carb it sounds like switching back to the Carter is the answer?
