Hey all, Stupid question here. I'm looking at picking up a 1970/1971 (seller says 70, title says 71). It's 6 hours away so I'm trying to figure out how to get it back. Since the frame and leaf springs look pretty good I'm looking at flat towing it since my vehicle can't handle the extra weight of the trailer in addition to the Jeepster. However, the rubber is in pretty rough shape. I have a set of stock 2017 Sahara 18" wheels/30" tires. Having never had an older Jeep...will these fit on the Jeepster? According to my research they're the same bolt pattern, but can't find any info on width, if 30" tires would clear the fenders and if the locking hubs will fit through the center hole (having never had locking hubs).

I don't believe they are the same lug pattern. Most old jeeps are 5x5.5 while the new stuff is 5x4.5 I think.

I would consider using a tow dolly and 2 used tires from a local source

Those rims and tires will not work with this 1970 jeep.

Buy the jeep, tow it to the nearest used tire place and put on a set of used tires to tow it home, or better yet get a tow dolly and only buy 2. If you tow, take out the rear driveshaft.

The bolt pattern on the new ones is 5x5.5. I just wasn't sure of the width. All the pictures of Jeepsters have tires that look significantly thinner and the center cap looks smaller on the ones than the stock Jeepster rims was my concern.

I'd considered the dolly route, but pulling the drive shaft concerns me only because I didn't check the condition of the bolts just the axles and leaf springs.

Sounds like best bet is to just keep looking for a truck to borrow and go with the full auto trailer.

    Thanks all!

car dolly, drive rear end on dolly, tie off centered steering wheel--loose---between spokes, unlock front hubs, head for home
