    Stock drive shaft or custom?

Mine only clears the bottom of the bell crank by less than 1/8".

My exhaust pipe isn't quite stock, it runs a little further out towards the frame than factory, in fact it was made up after the winch & shaft were in place.

I'm assuming you have a two piece shaft with a hanger bearing, you may have to play with things a bit there for clearance.

FWIW I'm currently re-thing my setuo-- I may be moving the winch up so the shaft runs above the bell crank- I've bent the shaft a few times from the front axle coming up & whacking it. :(

Possibly you need a two piece shaft with the intermediate support bearing.

Stock exhaust for the f-head runs inside/above the frame crossmember.

This space is needed for the PTO shaft, so the pipe must be bent down to run under the crossmember. This will require a small extension segment also.

Side to side clearance by the (stock OEM) front downpipe can be enhanced by heating the pipe near the top, and bending it slightly to the side.

    See attached file.

    Hmmm....

    A Clue...

Take a big hammer & whach your exhaust pipe a bit to make clearance. :bash:

I'd suggest a two piece shaft, mine places the middle ujoint about mid-engine. Alternatively you could adjust the mount to drop the winch down a bit for clearance.

Two piece shaft on my V6. If you go 2 piece, you should put a slip yoke on a shaft some where. ( near the bearing)

Even on a one piece shaft there should be a slip yoke. Don’t know how the shaft could be installed without one.

As you install the winch, slipping the last u-joint coupling. Or if its a two piece shaft, bend it in and then mount the center bearing.

Don't recall ever having a slip joint in any of mine.

My dads' 69 V6 has a Ramsey PTO winch. It's a 2 piece shaft with a carrier bearing bolted to the bellhousing. No slip joint.

With no slip yoke in the shaft the PTO or the winch would see unnecessary gear clash. Same reason the slip yoke or telescoping shaft is installed in a steering system. When the frame flexes there need to be some give. Maybe the thinking is since the shaft is almost inline with the frame there is no linear push or pull on the shaft.

Man I can't get this shaft hooked up. I can't turn the housing due to the hole pattern, if I drop the winch it will be into the exhaust more if I raise it it will it the ball crank which it is against already. I hear ya about the 2 pc shaft but this fit before

Well it's not pretty but I took a ball joint press and dented the exhaust pipe so winch is hooked up
