I know the PTO self feeds oil from the back of the overdrive via the adaptor since the rear of the OD is removed to install the adaptor. I added some oil to the PTO up to the fill port. Will the unit just keep getting oil from the back of the overdrive until the unit and overdrive/PTO adaptor until they are all at the same level? It seems to me the PTO would be more full than it should be in this scenario. Is that a problem or problem? Seems like the OD will just keep pouring oil into the adaptor and PTO until its full.

Any insight on this? Do I just need to check the oil level frequently until the T case stops dropping?

Wasn't sure if this should be in the winch section as most folks are probably doing this to run a PTO for a winch.

Which PTO? Most of them have their own oil that doesn't mix with the xfer case/overdrive oil.

I have a DP-1. I know it's mixing. No way around it with the design of the OD rear cover and adaptor.

If you go here PTO Adapter Kit Install | Herm The Overdrive Guy and look at the rear cap, you can see the hole (on the left side) in the OD for oil to go through and you can see the back cap of the OD has cover that goes over that hole to enable oil to flow around the rear bearing.

I have a DPI on the shelf somewheres, I'll check it out next time I have a chance but honestly while oil may make it into the adapter from the OD I don't see how it will get from the adapter into the PTO.

Of course I can't find a picture of the DP-1 from the front angle, but I'm certain it has a hole similar to this PT1-J which allows clear flow into the unit.
