Another winter over and some kind of progress was made. I flushed the coolant, fuel pump, put a new fuel filter on, replaced all the old soft fuel line, and got the speedo hooked up and working. Also got some pics of the slightly more interesting stuff.

Replaced the alternator with a 10SI which bolted right in place.

Replaced A LOT of sketchy wiring and even added a couple fuses. I pulled out several melted wires. The only fuse I found was for the heater motor.

I had the radiator repaired, cleaned, painted. The mechanical fan hit the front differential and it bent the blades forward a bit. They dug into the radiator pretty good.

I replaced the mechanical fan with an electric one from a 90s mitsubishi. I used a piece of aluminum bar across the top to mount the fan and bent the ends around and into tabs that bolt through the same supports that hold the radiator. The bottom of the of the fan is hold with bracket I bent up that wraps around the bottom of the radiator tank. It's a tight fit but it works. I added a Derale automatic electric relay for it that kicks on at 160 with a manual override on the dash.

During this whole process I checked the bushings under the grille and found that there weren't any there... Thankfully I just happened to have some spares left over from my DJ5 project so I slipped 2 of those in there. I am apparently missing 3 more on the tub too. So that'll be another project for another day.

I still have lingering carb issues I need to get sorted but we're getting a lot closer to road reliable. I drove it to work and back and the cooling system worked great. It idled in the driveway for about 30 minutes and never got above 170 degrees. It can barely keep it self running though and is flooding out bad. My parts arrived Friday for the carb rebuild so as long as no disasters come up I can maybe get that squared away too. Here is one final shot after a spring wash.

    Thanks for the kind words!

I have no idea what it's out of. The guy at the rad shop could not find it in any of his catalogs using the numbers on it and I couldn't find anything on google. The only identifying markings are "Modine" and "5373." The PO didn't say. The rad shop guy thought it might be out of a tractor of some sort?

Sometimes it's just better to turn your head and be happy that things are working.
You at least gave us a number so hopefully it will help somebody.
