Does anyone use a primer on thier engines a friend of mine told me to prime it but could not remember the correct primer for heat. I have never done this but if someone makes a good heat resistant primer it would probably be a good idea. What are your thoughts.

They do make engine primer, should be in the section with the enamel engine paint at the parts store. I used it on my L226, can't hurt to prime it. I believe the paint in general should last longer with a primer coat, but certainly can't prove it.

I saw an article in Hot Rod Magazine years ago about it saying that you should use primer. Wish I knew where it was. I never have used it because of temps and wondered about a high temp primer. I have had an engine builder tell me that he painted their engines the color of the car if the customer brought him the paint he used primer and told me that modern paints were durable for the temps that engines generate.
