I think I screwed up. You guessed it, I used regular bolts mounting my pressure plate. Let me run through this, I am working the bugs out of my 225 v6 conversion and find I have no clutch. I'm now wondering if my problem is my hydraulic clutch conversion or the bolt heads interfering with clutch disc engagement. Anyboby know what effects the standard head bolts might have on my clutch? I couldn't see a problem but have regreted using them ever since I finished up the installation. Still, I'm hoping my problem is related to piston travel in one of the cylinders or just better bleeding of the hyd. fluid.

I'd say your problem is in the hydraulics as you mentioned. I'd bet air in the system as you suspect. I can't imagine how the bolts would affect anything.

IIRC the blots are outside of the area that contacts the clutch Disk. I don't think there should be a problem at all with those. Are you getting enough throw to release the presure plate?

The pressure plate bolts I used have been buggying me. Thinking more about it I will move on to other solutions to my clutch problem. I'm going to start a new post about hydraulic clutch set ups. thanks Glen and theBeav for response.

While fighting the pressure plates in Old Blue last week, I noticed that they were class 5 shoulder bolts. The bolt shoulders were closely fitted to the pressure plate holes and the counter sinks in the flywheel. Different bolts might allow the p plate to shift from centrifical force. Rather than having it held in position from locating shoulders, you would only have the friction from the flywheel to plate surface to keep it from shifting. Mike

Those shoulder bolts are very important to center the P-plate and are stronger than the threaded part of the bolt in the shear plane. You should change them. If you have a half bell housing remove the dust cover, and replace them from the bottom. Rotate the engine and loosen them all, then replace them one at a time. If you have a full bell housing you'll have to split it but they need to be replaced.
