I am curious what type of limited slip was standard in the Renegade 1s. I beleve mine is the orignal axle, I see a tag on the rear end about using the correct gear oil.
    Would it be a Powerlok?
Also, years ago, I had a 64 cj5 with a factory limited slip rear end. Would that have been a Powerlok?

Sorry to jump in but I am thinking about going power locs and an SM420 to my Dana 18 myself. Just curious how the extra height of the SM420 worked out in your swap? Did you have to make a new center pan or did it somehow fit in there?

Already touched on this in another thread for you, but the transmission tunnel will need work. The floor of my old jeep was already cut up so it wasn't a big deal to create a floor cover for the sm420. The sm420 is a bit more compact than the other truck 4 speeds.

    Don,
I have powr-loks front and rear in my 71 with a dana 30/44 with 4:27 gears on stock ross steering with 33" tires. there are many times I really need to pay attention as the steering wheel gets kinda loaded when turning and will try to spin back with some good force in 4x4. almost ripped a finger off because my finger was accidentally in one of the holes in my grant steering wheel. it is a small wheel and sometimes requires some grunt. at the end of a trail ride my arms feel like i have popeye arms as it is a good workout with my setup. power steering will get rid of a lot of that and been gathering parts for that over the years.

Sir, if you have the d18 see the "low range 2wd" thread about the benefits of removing the "pill". I too have a m38a1 with ross steering. I removed the pill. Unfortunately now, I have no choice but to buy a powerlok to test how 2low works

Power lok in the rear of the 62. Front is open. If I had to choose, I would go with a selectable in front, ARB or E-locker, but also a 30 with power steering. I don't think its a lie to say that your steering will be a little harder with manual steering and a power lok up front. PS will help to eliminate that problem though. But if your young and full of piss and vinegar, go for it.
