Got this Dauntless fired up and running after the PO hadn't started it in a year. Starts up and dies. Tough to keep going. Doesn't like the choke closed all the way. Hit the gas and it wants to cut out. Then after a little bit it will keep a rough idle and smoke a lot. Threw a timing light on it thinking the timing was off and I was getting intermittant spark at least on #1. Then it decides to fire consistantly and idle smooths out and it takes the throttle fine.
Let the engine warm up and it runs nice and smooth.
I've replaced cap and rotor and rebuilt the carb.
    Thoughts? Ideas?

could be bad plug wires if you have not replaced them.old wires can cause a problem when it is damp or cold.

point's condenser, as mentioned plugs and wires, also carb rebuild due to shellac and carbon. All fresh gas? Try Stabil.

My Fhead sat for 3+ years and needed plugs, wires, point's,condenser carb. rebuild fresh oil all the way around and it's fair share of colorfull expletivesR) ohh and a coil as well. (figured it couldn't hurt)

It sat for 2 weeks and fired right up last night when it was 9 deg. F out.
The coldest it's been yet since it was ressurected and warmed up fine and run's like a champ:D now I just :driving: waiting for something to break:rofl:

I'm guessing you have a manual choke?
