I used to have a large metal parts washer bin but there is no space in the garage of my current house. I bought a little plastic one from Harbor Freight that can sit on the workbench and store away when not in use.

The instructions say water-based solvent only but I figured that was hogwash. However, when looking at the documents for the good stuff from companies like Gunk, they say don't allow to come in contact with plastic.

The water based solvents are crap. What are the dangers of putting good solvent in a plastic washer bin?

I've seen someone put a card to an F-head in a plastic bin with cleaner to prep the carb for rebuild. The cleaner melted the plastic and some of the smaller carb parts embedded themselves in the melted plastic. They then had to purchase another carb.
