Was there a CJ-5 produced in the mid-60's that came painted in pink?? Came across one today that appears to be stock, unmolested and of course pink from top to bottom! Is this factory and if so why??

Appreciate any history/info or where I could find.

    Thanks

The Jeep Surreys came in pink, but they were flat fender models, and 2 wheel drive. I believe they were DJ-3As, but someone would have to confirm that. I don't think I have ever heard of a pink CJ-5.

My (wifes) CJ7 is MOPAR Panther Pink, or was till I swapped the tub. (not stock though)

    Sorry-I couldn't resist.
Jeep Surreys are the only Pink Jeep that I am aware of. Pics would certainly help in identifying what model it is.

    Buy that jeep!!!
    Buy it now!!!

No kidding. I betcha that jeep also has a pink steering wheel.

And the color - well it is kinda pink, but not bright pink, but more pink-ish than the classic pink.

Does it have any chrome parts on it at all? Or parts that used to be chrome?

Was it in New Mexico? There was one floating around out there with a hardtop and a cracked windshield.

What you are looking at is not pink, but actually Indian Ceramic Red.

The jeep is a Tuxedo Park Mark III jeep.

That was the predecessor to the Mark IV jeep, and is quite rare.

It should be a 62 or 63 model.

Do you know the serial number?? Also, if there is a trim code on the firewall that would be nice too!.

I have only seen two of them in my "jeep career".

And if you buy it, for heaven's sake, don't paint it! There are probably not a dozen or so in existence anymore.

Kamel, I actually had some of that Indian ceramic mixed up, thinking it was more of an orange color. NOPE! I would call it Salmon. close to pink, and since I had a pink one already, had to make another choice, hence the blue in my avatar.

I would like a pic of a CJ5 painted in the indian ceramic!

I used to have a picture of one but it is long gone. The one in New Mexico was on ebay about 9 - 10 months ago. It didn't sell for what they wanted. They had tried to sell it to me earlier, but it was just too far to go in my old truck.

The first one I ever saw was in northern Indiana and it was badly rusted.

Once the color faded a little they almost looked pink, but never as pink as a jeep surrey.

Salmon pink is a great way to describe it.

The Tuxedo Park, Mark III or Mark IV, were essentially upgraded trim packages. More chrome, a gage or two extra, and I think some were special colors. A few upgraded minor mechanical parts.

Serial number designation starting with 8322 identifies a Tux.

Link on our home page identifies all of the Tux-unique parts.

I found this a few months ago. Try the web site above. It is case sensative.
As someone has already said, this looks like it was produced between 1955-1965. DJ-3A. It was origionaly produced for resorts to transport guests.
I am sure they are rare and I am sure they are worth a bunch but I cant see myself driving one.

I will have to go back with the camera and get some photos! It is not a flat fender, nor a DJ. Will get serial number too! It is pink though and could have been "Salmon Pink" 40 years ago!

Can anyone tell me why the were produced? Not sure if my customer is interested in parting with it, but he does know that it is original.

    Thanks for all the input!

If it is a Tuxedo Park mark III it will have a "normal" serial number that is made 57548 xxxxxx. The 57548 indicates it is a cj5.

The trim code which will be on a small plate on the firewall will read L-29.

Originally the following parts were chrome.

    side steps
license plate light - located in center of tailgate
    front bumper
hood catch - u shaped bracket on center of hood.
    hood hinges
    windhshield hinges
    chrome bezel around speedometer
    Hood bumpers on windshield frame

These jeeps were sort of a test market for an upscale version of the cj5.

The seats, if they are original, are different from the cj5, but if you are not familiar with the cj5 normal seats you probably couldn't tell the difference. Original seats will most likely be black. They are supposed to be, but one of the ones I've seen had salmon colored seats.

Besides the unique features of the mark III, there is no badge or logo that would indicate that this jeep is anything other than a 'normal' cj5

In '64 they came out with a Mark IV tuxedo park, but this time they created a separate set of serial numbers for them that begin with 8322 (cj5a) or 8422(cj6a). These jeeps had a chrome badge on each side of the hood that said Tuxedo Park Mark IV.
