    First post oohh yaaa

So on the 72 CJ5 that I have been 'rescuing', it is completely missing the parking brake assembly. While fun to use wheel chocks on occasion - I need to correct the situation. Junkyard keeps pitching me a 1976+ assembly and while I can see how to make this unit work, what is the 'proper' unit for a 72 CJ5? Pictures and/or part number would be awesome.

If you have the D18, that would have the transmission parking brake. Try ATV Manufacturing. http://www.hermtheoverdriveguy.com/index.htm
If you have the D20 transfer case I have no idea what that year did for a parking brake.

Your question should be asked in the"intermediate" section that covers the '72-'75 models, though you will likely get an answer here too. This section is for the "early" models built by Willys and Kaiser which runs up to 1971.

Apologizes for the incorrect section for the post - and it does have the D20.

72-up uses standard rear wheel parking brake built into the rear drums....when you ask about a "parking brake assembly" are you referring to the pedal under the dash?

That is exactly what I am looking for - the pedal assembly that fits under the dash. The one I found is from a 76, maybe a 77 and I know I can make it work but I was more curious to know what came in the 72.

You are right, the '76 up version should be able to be made to work for the '72-75 part, but they are not the same. We've covered this before, but I can look up the PNs when I get home tonight. You will need the pedal assembly and the release cable. Both of these are NLA, so you will need to find used or old stock if you want to use the original pedal assembly.

Pretty sure the cables are available. There is a cable from the pedal to the equalizer, and a cable to each rear wheel from the equalizer. Inside the drum brakes, there is a lever that the cable pulls on and an equalizer bar between the shoes. Again, used is the only option for the parts inside the drum, and the '76-up parts will not work.

The foot pedal assembly is a couple of PNs, 999854 and 5351637. The release cable and handle is 5351421. This part was made aftermarket within the past few years, so you may be able to find one on a shelf somewhere. You could try the Crown warehouse here in MA - maybe they made them.

The cable to the equalizer is 5355287. The equalizer is 3172989 or 3222572. The cables to the rear wheels are 999980.

I appreciate the help - both with moving this thread to the correct forum and the PNs. No idea why the PO removed it all - but I am sure i will find out why once I get into it more.
Looking forward to be able to park on hills again soon!

72/73 Jeep Commando used the same foot pedal. I might have one in a couple of weeks if I can make a deal with a guy for a whole Jeep. Our annual Jam is coming up in three weeks, might be able to find you one there if you haven't located one by then. I could always post a wanted ad over at the JCCA forum if you want.

on my 74... I used a +76 pedal with aftermarket cables and equalizer..
also finding the hardware for the rear drums was off the shelf..
    not one issue
the stock 44 drums will hold the jeep on a vertical wall...

only "issue" that I still haven't addressed is a support from the front of the pedal to the cowl or dash
the back 2 studs are only strong enough for infrequent use.. without a front support something will give soon..

I know this is an old post, but I happen to have a parking brake pedal assy. that I removed from a '74. If interested, shoot me a PM. I'll also try posting in the intermediates forum.

I have an assembly but ended up breaking the release wire that goes to the bottom of the dash. The rest is still in great shape. Any way to fix this because as far as I know there are no parts available for them.
