160FDDED-6E13-4712-A6AD-E775E7175F04.jpeg Hi all, I’m looking for an original Ross steering box and steering column for my ‘64 CJ5 project. Some PO put a car box on. Can anyone recognize this one?

I have a complete column and box in great shape. The sector shaft is in really good shape. You can message me and we can determine if it is what you need for sure after searching correct part numbers. Thanks.

Probably a Hudson, they were considered a good upgrade back in the 60's. The transplant generally included the steering column & wheel.

I wondered if it wasn’t a Hudson. The mod wasn’t done particularly well (two sets of holes) and it’s rubbing on the PTO shaft. I’d like to get that corrected while it all apart. Any pictures of the Hudson mod on this or other forums?

Here's a good post on eWillys about the Hudson (Gemmer) steering gear mod - though it looks like your gearbox is a different model than the one that was used here:

Welcome from Michigan, I learned for the guys here that a V6 steering box is the best of the Ross steering boxes, if you can find one, just saying, Good Luck.

The Hudson box IS an improvement over the stock Ross box (better ratio & has bearings instead of bushings)
You may not be happy with this change.

Okay I’ve identified this box. It from a C1 corvette. Anyone know anything about this modification? Will it make CJ5 go faster

It's sure to handle like a 1950's sports car!

I watched a video series on YouTube about rebuilding the Corvette box and I was really impressed by the quality of the build of the box. If I can get parts to do the rebuild I will keep it. I’ll need a ‘vette steering wheel though.
