    Hi Donny,

Yeah, as far as I know, all of the Travellers had the higher roof for the reason you mentioned - give more headroom to those on the rear sideways mounted jumpseats. Yes, my '64 has the 230 Tornado OHC. It's a great engine.

How big do you think those wheels/tires are on the USBP Willys Wagons in the pictures? They look pretty big to me.

I emailed the US Border Patrol museum to see about getting more pictures. Hope to hear back with some more info.

    Cheers,

    Dan

I keep looking at the photo, and the rear rim looks like it may have been widened (the rear has a better view angle), maybe 7"-8"? There's something that just looks fabricated just inboard of the outer bead. Also, the actual outer lip looks "taller" that a regular rim, almost like a 2-piece rim would have.
Back in the day, they used to cut the outer bead area off, and graft on a section from another rim to widen them. We called these "split rims". The other method was to cut the rim in the drop-center, and weld a band in to widen it.
Those vintage rims just give that Wagon a great look!

Looking at the tire profile, and assuming those are 7.50 x 16's, I'd bet on a 6" wide rim. I do agree it looks wider than 5". And yep, split rims were the deal back in the day. They were quite popular for trucks used in orange groves also.

I've got a set of OEM 6"x 16's and those in the photo have noticably more recess/lip to the center disc portion of the wheel. I'll agree, those are likely 7.50-16's on that Wagon.
