I didn't measure the thickness before I installed it. I'm guessing mine is a 1/4" thick. When I was having issues with my fuel bowl overfilling, I did some research here and in the parts catalog. This research showed that the fuel pressure coming out of the fuel pump was high. I ordered one of these spacers and installed it. Hadn't had an issue since. You might not need one since you have a fuel pressure regulator along with the Solex Carb. Just food for thought if you decided to replace the carb with a Carter YF.

Maybe among active members @Howard Eisenhauer would know more, he has a Jeep that’s real close in numbers after mine but I believe he mentioned another lower number that was associated with a forum member

Interesting that 184, 311 & Tonk (384) all came from the factory with that colour.

There was one guy about 15 years ago who claimed he had one that said "Willys" on the side which would have made it like in the first dozen or so but we asked for pics & never heard from him again :susp:

Interesting, I've never thought too much about the serial numbers, but the thread title got me thinking.

I’ve always suspected that 311 was factory that blue color. The PO went to town with his pocket knife in various spots for whatever reason on what he felt were rust bubbles, was the story I got from his brother whom I purchased the jeep from. None of the bubbles were rust but his expedition with his pocket knife reaffirms, in my mind at least, that it came from factory that color. Or a total respray done long long ago. I will say he also must have been into touching up the jeep as well and that’s where the overspray in my pics is from. Which seems like it conflicts with the knife work? Who knows ? It’s like automotive archeology sometimes trying to figure out what the last guy did or didn’t do.

So it looks like 311 is the earliest cj on the board do I get a free milkshake or something ?
Seriously though thanks for the interest in the jeep it’s a special jeep that’s for sure.

I looked at your photos more closely this time and the seats and even the tail gate chains are all identical to 311. The story I got when I bought the jeep was that it had a pto winch and they took it off and replaced with a warn. I like the look of the PTO winch, also since mine has a rear pto, so I believe the winch was run off the crank shaft? I may be wrong on that though, I don’t have a huge amount of knowledge on the PTO winch’s. I would get rid of those goofy steps on that one but otherwise wow.

Lots of nice vintage equipment on a nice old CJ5. Your wiring is basically virgin compared to most Jeeps of that age, I don't see any residential wire, wire nuts, or hairballs generally found on vintage Jeeps. You have many of us drooling a your good fortune. Good luck!

I notice your floor pans are blue- Tonk's were also blue from the factory.

I also notice a few blue patches/specs on your ws frame- is this overspray from a touchup or is there any indication of blue under the black? There's been some speculation that early run 5's came with body coloured frames.

This is a very nice original Jeep.

I like the patina on it.

Enjoy that nice piece of history.

Back on the jeep today trying to get my NOS fuel pump with glass bowl to fit and it’s no bueno. Not enough clearance between the motor mount and the fuel pump.

The fuel pump is just to wide. The one that came off it was a little narrower.

    New one won’t fit

So I cleaned up the old fuel pump and put it back in the jeep for now. I am going to order a fuel pump rebuild kit, hopefully from Midwest military, when I order the floor pans for my Renegade.

For now it’ll work and the jeep started right up.

Makes me wonder what application this fuel pump is for because it looks to be the right part. Maybe later Cj’s have a different motor mount? I have a giant steel plate as seen in the above photo. Perhaps that changed over time for the fhead?

Can't really tell from this picture. The engine mount plate should have a notched/recessed area on it. This allows the pump to fit in the tight space. Not saying there isn't an issue with the replacement pump. I just now from my experience that if the pump isn't in this notch/recess then the bolts don't line up correctly.

    Picture from CJ2A page:
You can see the notched/recessed area. Look at the second screw (clockwise) from the inlet barb.
