    Hi All,

Please don't get mad at me for this post, I know this subject has been talked to death. I have read literally hundreds of posts about the differential oil, transfer case oil and transmission oil and it has become overwhelming. Thanks to some kind folks on this forum I now know I have a 71 model year Flanged axle Dana 44 in my 1950 cj3a. It has the L134 motor. I am only "restoring" this cj3 to run around town in, it will never tow or see mud again. From all of the post I have been reading I am getting that I should use the following oils for different locations..

    Rear and Front Differentials - Sta-Lube GL4 80w/90
    Transmission and Transfer Case - GL1 80w/90
Steering box - John Deere cornhead Grease

Does this list sound Ok? I am not looking for high-performance stuff, I just want to use what is right...

    Thanks

    Ardan

The GL4 is for the transmission. You can run any 80W90 in the axles. Some guys run corn head grease in the steering knuckles, I've never heard of it being used in the steering box.

I used the Sta-lube GL4 in my trans and transfer case at the advice from the guys on this forum, because of the brass in them. I put 90wt, in the knuckles and steering box like the FSM says, and probably need to check my steering knuckles again.
