Looking for OEM fender flares for my 74 cj5. All of the ones I have seen use screws mounted along the outside edge of the wheel wells. As i already have holes along the inside lip of the wheel wells (where the original flares were mounted?) I do not want to drill any more holes unless I have to. Any idea's? Thanks.

Jeep supplied the universal rubber truck flare material as an official accessory in the early 70s. Then around say 1974 there was a molded plastic flare offered. The modern plastic flares are very much like the vintage plastic flares. You could have had the rubber flares originally. That material is still available. Lots of sources if you search the web.

Another option would be to use 3M double sided trim/molding tape. It is very strong, sadly its how Chrysler/Jeep put most of my girlfriends 2010 liberty together, I dont really agree with the extent they used it, but it is what it is and should hold fine for fender flares.

thanks for all the replies and comments. I am the forth owner and other than power steering/brakes/discs and the wheels (i have the original wheels) it's just like it left the dealership 10/74 in Las Vegas. I recently removed the spare tire carrier and closed up the mounting holes. It has a "Rally Mfg" hard top and full dealer aftermarket roll bar and less than 35,000 original miles. looking to keep it as original as possible.

The Jeep was built in May of 74 and sold in Oct of that year at the Jeep Dealership in Reno Navada.

The Reno Jeep dealership was the largest in the nation at that time.

wow i didn't know that. i have the original bill of sale and the dealership must have been something based on all the paperwork. They installed a aftermarket full roll bar and this spare tire and can carrier. as the holes are still in the body i would love to find one of these but no luck so far. from what i have read these guys were popular out west back in the day but they are long gone now. Any ideas?

I had one of those on my heap when I bought it.. It is a POS.. It wouldn't stay latched, and twisted all over when wheeling tearing the body up. Ditched it and built a new bumper and tire mount that doesn't swing out.
